July 2025 — Yumin Edu was born from a Google Doc.

Nothing fancy — just Kelly, her observations, and a desire to create change.

After countless long calls, Karen and Natalia joined the journey, and Yumin Edu gradually grew into four core missions: Cultural Connection, Environmental Awareness, STEM Education, and Critical Thinking (CEST).

Coming from different backgrounds, one of our first goals was to bridge cultures within our community. Bringing together volunteers from 3 different high schools, we began hosting online English tutoring sessions for newly arrived Taiwanese students and families. As we grew, we collaborated with @amele_info and started hosting monthly in-person sessions. Seeing the genuine smiles and connections formed between learners and volunteers has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who trusted and supported us along the way.

Environmental advocacy has also become a major part of Yumin Edu’s mission. Our core members — Kelly, Karen, and Natalia — have each immersed themselves in environmental studies courses and microplastics research projects.

One opportunity we are especially grateful for was connecting with ReefTeach at the Kohala Center @kahaluubay (Mahalo!), where we began developing the Kilo a Ko‘a Project. Through this initiative, we are building a web app that encourages community members to observe corals at Kahalu‘u Bay while promoting awareness of reef-safe sunscreen practices. We also hosted a poster session at our high school to introduce the issue of coral conservation to our peers and community members.

Although many of our projects are still evolving, we remain committed to continuing the development of the Kilo a Ko‘a platform, expanding educational outreach, and growing Yumin Edu into something even more impactful.

Thank you to everyone who believed in us and supported us throughout this year. This is a wrap for Yumin Edu 2025–2026, and we are excited to continue sharing our goals, projects, and progress in the year ahead.

“When you get, give. When you learn, teach.”
